The Kansas State High School state wrestling tournaments have come to a close. State champions from the area include Sacred Heart’s Nick Wuthnow (3-2-1A, 182 pounds), Beloit’s Bowe Behymer (3-2-1A 160 pounds), Smoky Valley’s Austin Cook (4A, 170 pounds), and Sylvan Lucas’ Fritz Berger (3-2-1A, 285 pounds).

Salina Central (5A in Park City)
106: Freshman Gunner Rairden (29-14) finishes 1-2 at state with a 9-1 major decision loss to Logan Treaster (34-2), freshman, Newton. Rairden advanced to the consolation cross bracket with a 10-0 major decision over Malieke Wright (4-11), freshman, Leavenworth.  Rairden lost by fall in 3:39 to Tanner Hitchcock (28-6), freshman, Pittsburg, in the first round.
113: Sophomore Chance Sorell (20-18) goes 1-2 at state after losing by fall in 47 seconds to Khamin Crow (36-9), junior, Seaman. Sorell at advanced to the consolation cross bracket with a win by fall in 2:30 over Brad Young (9-20), sophomore, Leavenworth. Sorell lost by fall in 39 seconds to Paul Stuart (31-1), freshman, Andover, in the first round.
132: Freshman Donivyn Will (20-15) had his season end with a 1-2 showing at state with a 9-0 major decision to Logan Marx (26-9), junior, Mill Valley. Will lost by fall in 40 seconds in the quarterfinals to Zak Hensley (47-6), junior, St. James Academy. Will won by fall in 3:24 against Jared Scrimopiskie (17-9), senior, Topeka West, in the first round.
145: Junior Dayton Will (35-8) finishes as the state runner-up after dropping a 7-3 decision to Michael Olsen (36-0), senior, Lansing. Will won his semifinal on an 8-5 decision over Luke Sponsel (28-11), senior, Bishop Carroll. Will advances to the semifinals with a 10-2 major decision over Daemeion Gay (29-11), junior, Seaman. Will won by fall in 5:45 over Cale Davidson (17-13), freshman, Goddard, in the first round.
152: Sophomore Easton Ryser (19-20) lost a 14-3 major decision in the consolation cross bracket against Eann Ellingson (19-8), sophomore, Eisenhower. Ryser lost an 18-1 technical fall in the quarterfinals to Bryan Burnett (34-11), junior, Mill Valley. Ryser won by fall in 4:48 over Mason Ray (17-12), sophomore, Seaman, in the first round.
160: Sophomore Dalton Peters (34-7) lost in the consolation quarterfinals by a 4-2 decision in sudden victory to Kalin Collins (31-4), senior, Wichita West. Peters won via pinfall at 4:06 in the consolation cross bracket against Josh Moyer (28-12), senior, Maize South. Peters lost his quarterfinal match by a 5-1 decision against Ben VanLerberg (46-9), senior, St. James. Peters won by fall in 1:19 against Jake Dusenbury (26-14), junior, Andover in the first round.
170: Sophomore Kyle True (28-14), lost an 11-2 major decision to Nick Nece (31-15), sophomore, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, to finish the state tournament at 2-2. True won via pinfall at 2:54 in the consolation cross-bracket against Javon Bembry (14-16), sophomore, Wichita Heights. True will wrestle in the consolation cross-bracket against Nick Nece (31-14), sophomore, Kapaun. True lost to Jesse Oliver (29-4), senior, Wichita West in the quarterfinals by a 13-8 decision.  True won by fall in 1:38 over Jake Harrington (11-12), sophomore, Leavenworth, in the first round.
182: Sophomore Jack Helvey (29-12) is out after he lost a 6-0 decision to Griffin Berrigan (24-15), junior, Blue Valley Southwest. Helvey lost a 5-1 decision against Nick Kirmer (29-13), sophomore, Emporia, in the first round.
285: Senior Vince Johnson (20-19) finished in fifth place thanks to a 9-4 decision over Malcolm Mikkelsen (25-10), senior, Seaman. Johnson lost a 5-2 decision to Jacob Crane (32-11), senior, Great Bend in the consolation semifinals. Johnson lost by fall in 1:23 to Raymond Gallegos (36-0) in the semifinals.  Johnson advanced to the semifinals with a 5-4 decision over Malcolm Mikkelsen (24-7), senior, Seaman, in the quarterfinals. Johnson wins by fall in 3:19 over Austin Lawrence (26-9), junior, Blue Valley Southwest, in the first round.

Salina South (5A in Park City)
120: Freshman Allen Heberly (22-12) dropped his second match at state, ending his season with a 1-0 decision to CJ Beran (17-7), senior, Mill Valley. Heberly lost a 4-0 decision to Jaelynn Gay (33-10), junior, Seaman.
126: Senior Tyler Irwin (33-10) came one win short of placing in the state tournament, going 2-2. Irwin lost in the consolation quarterfinals in a 4-2 decision to PJ Cheney (27-8), senior, Kansas City-Turner. Irwin kept his season going with a 9-7 sudden victory over Adam Pelfrey (34-6), senior, Blue Valley Southwest. Irwin stayed alive and will wrestle in the consolation cross bracket after a 14-0 major decision over Ryan Anderson (7-8), sophomore, Mill Valley. Irwin lost an 8-1 decision to Marco Perez (26-16), junior, Arkansas City.
152: Senior John McNabb (26-10) finished in sixth place after coming up short in a 12-4 major decision to Kendall Biddle (34-12), sophomore, Arkansas City. McNabb dropped to the fifth place match after a loss on a 7-3 decision to Bryan Burnett (35-12), junior, Mill Valley. McNabb won a 3-1 decision in the consolation quarterfinals over Forlanda Parker (32-12), senior, Wichita Heights. McNabb won a 6-4 decision in the consolation cross bracket against Mason Ray (18-13), sophomore, Seaman. McNabb lost in the quarterfinals by a 9-2 decision to Andrew Tujague (41-7), senior, St. James. McNabb won a 9-3 decision over Tucker Lee (21-21), junior, Emporia, in the first round.
195: Junior Cole Hoover (16-9) lost a 7-2 decison in the consolation cross bracket against Mike Lopez (29-9), senior, Andover. Hoover won in the consolation bracket against Keenan Adams (14-17), sophomore, Schlagle. Hoover will wrestle in the consolation cross bracket against Mike Lopez (28-9), senior, Andover. Hoover lost in the first round by fall in 4:43 to Bailey Kelly (25-14), sophomore, Seaman.

Sacred Heart (3-2-1A in Hays)
182: Senior Nick Wuthnow (38-0) completed his second straight state championship run, defeating Gavin Grater (43-2), senior, Riley County, in the championship match by an 11-4 decision. Wuthnow set up his shot at a title after a 16-7 major decision over Rex Diederich (28-5), junior, Oberlin, in the semifinals. Wuthnow advanced to the semifinals with a win by fall in 50 seconds over Braeden Lockhart (24-12), senior, Silver Lake. Wuthnow won by fall in 34 seconds vs. Tad Herrmann (16-8), senior, Jayhawk-Linn in the first round.

Southeast of Saline (3-2-1A in Hays)
126: Senior Jim Weller (28-10) is out after a 7-3 loss to Jon Carey (27-11), junior, Hillsboro. Weller lost by 7-5 decision to Gabe Hamel (28-12), freshman, Hill City, in the first round.
160: Senior Kreal Smith (39-6) finished in fifth place after winning a 9-2 decision over Tabor Erickson (30-15), freshman, Oberlin. Smith lost a 4-3 decision to Josh Nelsen (30-5), junior, Marysville in the consolation semifinals. Smith picked up a 6-2 decision over Kendall Miller (33-9), junior, Norton, in the consolation quarterfinals. Smith won by fall in 2:03 in the consolation cross bracket over Jacob Griffith (25-16), senior, Minneapolis. Smith lost in the quarterfinals by an 8-6 decision to Lucas McMichael (20-6), sophomore, Central of Burden. Smith won by fall in 3:04 over Kyle Chew (24-13), senior, Atchison County in the first round.
170: Senior Keith Short (31-6) finished in fourth place after a loss on a 3-1 decision to Michael Baumgartner (32-10), senior, Sabetha. Short won his consolation semifinal by a 12-10 decision over Scott Birkinsha (30-8), senior, Atchison County. Short lost his semifinal match with Isaac Luellen (41-8), sopohomore, Rossville, by an 11-1 major decision. Short will wrestle in the consolation semifinals on Saturday. Short advanced to the semifinals with a 5-4 decision over Adam Janzen (26-3), junior, Marion.  Short won a 7-4 decision over Grant Gilliam (31-11), senior, Oberlin in the first round.
195: Senior Jason Martinez (25-9) goes 1-2 after a loss on a 4-2 decision to Drake Whalen (20-5), senior, Osage City. Martinez won by fall in 2:08 over Rowdy Lahey (24-16), junior, Erie, in the consolation first round. Martinez lost a 5-1 decision to Seth Boswell (24-13), senior, Philipsburg, in the first round.

St. John’s Military (3-2-1A in Hays)
220: Senior Nathan Bower (26-6) lost a 13-4 major decision to Skyler Tebo (29-13), senior, Ellis, in the consolation bracket. Bower lost a 12-7 decision to Logan McKinney (18-9), senior, Pleasant Ridge, in the first round.

Abilene (4A in Salina)
106: Junior Logan McDowell (32-6) finishes 2-2 after a loss to Tate Withington (34-9), freshman, Goodland, on a 5-2 decision in sudden victory. McDowell wins by fall in 1:48 over Dylan Bloom (26-13), sophomore, Wamego. McDowell lost his quarterfinal match by a 12-2 major decision to Corbin Nirschl (29-0), freshman, Basehor-Linwood.  McDowell won by 16-1 technical fall over Tyler Hildibrand (20-9), senior, Augusta, in the first round.
113: Sophomore Hunter Kiser (19-11) lost by fall in 3:15 to Chance Maynard (23-8), senior, Buhler, in the consolation cross bracket round. Kiser lost in the quarterfinals by an 18-6 major decision to Trae Foreman (27-5), senior, Pratt. Kiser won by fall in 4:44 over Ben Morgenstern (23-18), sophomore, Baldwin, in the first round.
120: Junior Zane Baugh (36-4) finishes 2-2 at the tournament with a loss by fall to Curtis Burnett (33-4), junior, Independence, in the consolation quarterfinals. Baugh won a major decision, 11-2, over Caleb Sare (35-14), sophomore, Smoky Valley. Baugh lost his quarterfinal match-up with Mulvane’s Anthony Scantlin (34-4), freshman, by a 5-4 decision. Baugh won by forfeit vs. Jacob Christie (21-13), senior, Wamego, in the first round.
126: Junior Caysen Smith (35-6) is a state runner-up after losing an 8-3 decision to Donte Boose (45-3), senior, Sumner Academy. Smith advances to the semifinals with a 5-2 decision over Justin Pool (26-13), Holton, sophomore. Smith won by 9-3 decision over Josh Moore (26-13), sophomore, Augusta in the first round.
138: Senior Blake Anguiano (24-11)  had his season end with a loss by fall in 2:53 to Daniel Thomas (20-12), senior, El Dorado, in the consolation bracket. Anguiano lost an 8-1 decision to Tucker Clark (37-8), senior, Baldwin.
145: Junior Seth Strauss (21-5) lost in the consolation quarterfinals on a 1-0 decision to Jon Pratt (37-13), junior, Baldwin. Strauss finishes state at 2-2. Strauss defeated Bryce Golightley (29-12), senior, Royal Valley, on a 9-2 decision in the consolation cross-bracket. Strauss won by fall over Braxton McCluskey (22-13), junior, Bishop Ward. Strauss lost by fall in 3:11 to Brady Vogel (28-13), sophomore, Chanute, in the first round.

Beloit (3-2-1A in Hays)
106: Freshman Diego Dominguez (11-7) was 0-2 at state with a loss by fall in 3:45 to Junior Torres (21-6), junior, Sublette. Dominguez lost first round by 15-0 technical fall to Holden Butler (35-6), freshman, Council Grove.
138: Sophomore Carter Wessling (37-6) takes third place after a 3-1 decision over Colton Stalford (34-9), junior, Caney Valley. Wessling won a 2-1 decision in the consolation semifinals over Willy Dieckmann (30-9), junior, Atchison County. Wessling drops a 4-3 decision in his semifinal match against Alec Hager (41-5), senior, Norton. Wessling wins a 10-8 decision over Trever Melcher (15-2), senior, Herington, in the quarterfinals. Wessling wins by fall in 3:41 over Adam Gehring (19-15), senior, Plainville in the first round.
145: Senior Tyler Watts (27-14) was 0-2 at state after defaulting due to injury to Brandon Schoenthaler (31-9), senior, Trego. Watts lost a 7-4 decision to Marc Reiss (26-5), senior, Rock Creek, in the first round.
152: Senior Tanner Niemczyk (34-6) finished in fourth place after a 1-0 loss to Clint Rogers (39-2), senior, Smith Center. Niemczyk won a 9-7 decision over Petter Ekrol (29-7), senior, Halstead, in the consolation semifinals. Niemczyk won a 4-2 decision over Trevor Desaire (17-16), senior, Plainville, in the consolation quarterfinals. Niemczyk won a 6-4 decision over Mike Kasson (27-13), sophomore, Norton, in the consolation cross-bracket. Niemczyk lost his quarterfinal match by a 6-3 decision to Andrew Beck (35-6), senior, Centralia. Niemczyk won an 8-4 decision vs. Dakota Cline (21-11), senior, Eureka in the first round.
160: Senior Bowe Behymer (40-0) capped an undefeated state championship with a 12-8 decision over Garret Dunlap (35-7), sophomore, Doniphan West. Behymer will go for an undefeated state championship on Saturday after a 17-2 technical fall victory over junior Josh Nelsen of Marysville (29-5). Behymer pinned Jared Pfeifer (7-2), junior, Ellis, in 45 seconds to advance to the semifinals. Behymer won by techinal fall, 19-3, against Bobby Bleakley (40-9), senior, St. Marys in the first round.
170: Senior Dalton Langham (26-14) lost by fall in 2:18 to Austin McHenry (39-8), sophomore, Hoisington, in the consolation cross bracket, going 1-2 in the tournament. Langham lost a 3-0 decision to Michael Baumgartner (30-9), senior, Sabetha, in the quarterfinals. He won by a 12-8 decision against Dajuen Chapman (11-10), freshman, Hill City in the first round.
182: Sophomore Evan Brandt (8-6) finished his tournament 1-2 with a loss on a 5-0 decision to Kyle Ames (29-17), junior, Onaga in the consolation cross-bracket. Brandt lost in the quarterfinals to Gavin Grater (42-1), senior, Riley County, by fall in 2:27. Brandt will wrestle next in the consolation cross-bracketing. He won a 5-2 decision vs. Levi Mendoza (25-17), sophomore, Hillsboro in the first round.
220: Senior John Mosher (20-18) lost by fall in 2:59 to Kagan Blackwell (40-8), senior, Hoisington, in the consolation cross-bracket to finish the tournament 1-2. 285: Senior Bryce Black (7-2) is the state runner-up, losing by fall in 5:47 to Fritz Berger (36-3), senior, Sylvan-Lucas. Black advanced to the state championship after picking up a 3-1 overtime decision against Jaden Helms (29-8), junior, Chaparral, in the semifinals. Black advanced to the semifinals with a 7-3 decision over Zach Crick (32-5), senior, South Gray.  Black won by fall in 2:44 over Stephen Baker (21-16), senior, Caney Valley in the first round.

Bennington (3-2-1A in Hays)
113: Sophomore Kody Kind (30-14) goes 2-2 in the state tournament after a loss by fall in 1:48 to Tucker Rhoades (33-8), freshman, TMP-Marian, in the consolation quarterfinals. Kind won in the consolation cross-bracket with a 7-5 decision over Jordon Herrman (22-13), junior, Atchison County. Kind lost his quarterfinal match by a 3-2 decision to Chris Deters (28-3), sophomore, Marysville. He won by fall in 4:51 over Justin Skerce (24-11), sophomore, Council Grove in the first round.

152: Sophomore Kyler Mick (25-8) finished 1-2 after losing a 6-5 decision to Justin Wagner (31-11), senior, Atchison County in the consolation cross-bracket. Mick lost his quarterfinal match by an 18-6 major decision to Tagen Lambotte (39-1), senior, Rossville. He won by fall in 31 seconds vs. Austin Jones (18-16), Burlingame, in the first round.

285: Sophomore Jason Zook (33-6) won the fifth place match against Jordan Dybread (25-6), senior, Chanute, after an injury default. Zook lost a 1-0 decision to Kainon Clark (36-9), senior, Spring Hill in the consolation semifinals. Zook lost his semifinal match to Justin Scott (36-1), senior, Jefferson West, by fall in 1:13. Nienke defeated Dalton Dultmeier of Silver Lake in the semifinals by a 9-0 major decision to advance to the title match. Nienke won his quarterfinal match by an 11-2 major decision over Isaac Stone (24-4), sophomore, Greeley County. Nienke won by fall in 1:41 over Noah Albin (9-19), freshman, Marion, in the first round.
132: Senior Marshall Barkow (24-12) lost a 10-4 decision to Toby Nickell (10-10), senior, Norton, in the consolation cross bracket to go 1-2 at state.
