HIGHLIGHTS: Mustangs Fall Short At Hutch

KSAL Sports - September 6, 2013 10:36 pm

In a rematch of last year’s season opener, this time Salina Central took to the road to face off against the #2 team in class 6A football in the Hutchinson Salthawks. The Mustangs fought hard, but in the end, this years contest ended the same as last years as the maroon and white fell to the hands of the Salthawks 42-31.

The Mustangs possessed a balanced attack on offense led by senior QB J.W. Maldaner He ended the ballgame with 18 carries for 87 yards and a rushing touchdown while also going 16-27 through the air for 197 yards with 2tds and 2 ints.

Defensively Central forced 3 Salthawk turnovers (2ints 1 fumble recovery) but gave up over 500 yards of the ground to Hutch which ultimately led to their demise.

Salina Central is 0-1 on the regular season and will kick off for the first time at home next week as they host Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League opponent Newton inside of Salina Stadium.
