Southeast Cross Country Ready to Compete

It’s a tale of two different teams for 13th-year Southeast of Saline cross country coach Wade Caselman.
The Southeast girls return six of seven runners from a fourth-place Class 3A finish a year ago. Meanwhile, the Trojan boys have just two runners with varsity experience back.
Caselman says his girls squad will be deep.
“I feel that we have a lot of depth with this year’s team and that several of our freshmen will add to that depth and will be battling for a varsity spot,” Caselman said.
The girls return senior Jade Yiankopulos along with juniors Allison Stutterheim, Madison Keim and Hannah Henry and sophomores Evelyn Barnhart and Sidney Clements. Freshmen Callie Caselman, Emma Fear, Taylor Weis and Shaylin Ptacek are expected to push for varsity spots.
As for the boys, developing depth will be the key.
“The boys lost some key runners from last years team so they will be rebuilding this year and unlike the girls team, they do not have much depth but they are working hard in practice every day in order to get better,” Caselman said.
Senior Ryan Patrick and sophomore Jared Davis are back for the Trojans. Freshmen Taygen Yiankopulos and Thomas Durham will compete for varsity slots.
With the two programs in different spots, the goals are different.
“For the girls, I know that they would love to come home with a league, regional and state title this year, which is obtainable if they continue to work hard and push each other to get better every day in practice,” Caselman said. “The boys need to take it one meet at a time and develop their own identity and concentrate on individual improvement for team success. They would like to return to Rim Rock for a chance to compete at the state meet.”
