The Salina South Cougars rolled to a 56 – 15 first round playoff win Friday night.

The Cougars hosted the Wichita West Pioneers, a team making its first playoff appearance since 2002.

It was all South after that, though. Ryan Fox would rumble into the end zone from 20 yards out just before halftime to give the hometown Cougars a 35 – 8 halftime lead.

The Cougars scored the only touchdown of the 3rd quarter when Mike Jones scampered in from 17 yards out. South lead 42 – 8 heading into the final quarter,

The Pioneers made a quarterback change in the 4th quarter, and on his first play in the game Chaz Capps threw a 52 yard touchdown pass to Christian Fagagua.

The Cougars came right back, with Jones breaking free for a 65 yard touchdown run, his fourth of the game. Fox would close out the scoring with a touchdown in the final 2 minutes, his second of the game.

Along with his four touchdowns, Mike Jones also rushed for over 200 yards.

The Cougars will play next week at Wichita Bishop Carroll, the same location where their season has ended the past 2 seasons with disappointing playoff losses.
