LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) – Kansas linebacker Samson Faifili is enjoying life these days.
Not only did he quickly become a starter after arriving on campus, the junior college transfer also doesn’t have to worry about pinching pennies anymore. When he moved to California after high school, he had $200 to his name and skipped meals to make ends meet.
Now, he’s on scholarship, doesn’t have to worry about food and can concentrate on school and football. Faifili started in the Jayhawks’ win over South Dakota last weekend.
He wound up at Kansas thanks in part to his cousin, Chargers linebacker Manti Te’o, who played for Jayhawks coach Charlie Weis at Notre Dame. But now that he’s on campus, Faifili can’t imagine playing anywhere else.
