Postseason Honors Continue for Area Athletes

The high school basketball season ended over two weeks ago, but All-Star selections and All-State honors continue to roll in for several area athletes.

The Kansas Basketball Coaches’ Association released their All-State selections on Monday.

On the girls side, Salina Central senior Shaelyn Martin was named first team All-Class 5A, while senior Emily Wood was named to the second team. In addition, Martin and Wood were selected to play in the KBCA All-Star game this summer. Ell-Saline junior Aubrey Wilson received honorable mention in Class 2A.

On the boys side, Salina Central senior Treyton Hines and junior Jordan McNelly picked up honorable mention All-Class 5A honors.

On Saturday, nine Saline County seniors took part in the North Central Kansas All-Star games at Cloud County Community College.

In the girls contest, all six seniors from Salina Central, along with Coach Geoff Andrews, helped lead the Gold team. Wood, Martin, Madi Carlgren, MacKenzie Morris, Brooke Peters and Hailey Mayfield all played for the Gold team along with Ell-Saline’s Paige Johnson. Peters led the Gold team with 18 points, while Martin had 17 points, Wood tallied 14 and Carlgren had 10 in the 83-68 win.

In the boys contest, Southeast of Saline’s Ben Stutterheim played for the Gold team, while Salina South’s Justin Stonebraker played for the Black team. Stonebraker’s Black team picked up a 115-93 win. Stonebraker poured in 31 points while burying nine three-pointers. Stonebraker was named the Offensive MVP.
