The Salina Falcons Senior American Legion baseball team will open play in the 2013 Class AAA state baseball tournament today. The Falcons will meet perennial power Pittsburg at 1:30pm at Larks Park in Hays.

The Falcons return to the state tournament after playing in Manhattan last year at Tointon Family Stadium. The Falcons placed third behind Hays and Pittsburg.

Matt Rowe has been the top hitter for the Falcons, with a .500 batting average and 28 runs batted in. Mason Brightbill leads the team with 40 RBI, while Dalton Dooley has 38. The Falcons have hit .346 as a team this season.

The Falcons have depth on the mound. Keenan Breen is 7-2 with a 3.06 ERA. Robert James is 6-3 with a 3.38 ERA and Daniel O’Brien is 5-1 with a 3.44 ERA. Jared Winter has also seen plenty of time on the mound with a 2-2 record and a 5.09 ERA. All four have thrown over 42 innings this season.
