Hawks Win Zone Opener, Eagles Rained Out

Hawks knock off Pratt
The Salina Hawks Junior American Legion baseball team opened Class A Zone 6 tournament play with a dominating 18-2 win over Pratt in Great Bend on Monday.

The Hawks scored three runs in the first, and answered Pratt’s single run in the bottom half with five more runs in the top of the second. The Hawks put the game away with an eight-run top of the fourth.

Sam Mermis paced the offense with three hits, while Cody Walters, Jacob Pengra, Drew Gormley and Colin Blackim each had two hits.

Walters picked up the win on the mound.

The Hawks will play Buhler at 11am Tuesday.

Eagles washed out in Newton
The Salina Eagles Junior American Legion baseball team’s opener in the Class A Zone 5 tournament against McPherson in Newton was postponed due to rain.

The Eagles and McPherson will try again today at 5:30pm to play their tournament opener.

Stardust Trophy
