Ell-Saline Drops District Opener at Plainville

The Ell-Saline Cardinals lost their Class 2-1A district opener on Friday night, 14-0 at Plainville.

Plainville scored on a 3-yard touchdown run by Hadley Gillum in the second quarter and picked up the two-point conversion to lead 8-0.

Ell-Saline’s best scoring chance was in the third quarter, as Ell-Saline drove to the Plainville 10-yard line before stalling out.

Plainville added a fourth quarter touchdown as Trever Houser scored on a 41-yard reverse, pushing the lead to 14-0.

Ell-Saline was limited to 168 yards of total offense, with 157 yards on the ground. Cody Walters was 1-of-7 passing for 11 yards. Justin Schmutz led the Cardinal attack with 101 yards.

Plainville only had 190 yards of offense in the game, with 191 coming on the ground. Plainville lost a yard in the passing game.

Ell-Saline drops to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in district play. The Cardinals host SmithCenter this week.
