KWU Women’s Soccer Falls at KCAC Tournament

TOPEKA – Ottawa University scored an early goal and the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes countered with a goal late in the match to send the contest into overtime. After two scoreless overtime periods, the match went to a shootout with the Braves advancing to the NAIA Women’s Soccer Championship Opening Round winning the shootout round 7-6 at Hummer Sports Park on Saturday night.
The match officially goes down as a tie with Ottawa advancing in the penalty kick shootout.
The match was delayed for weather conditions twice at the start of the second half.
Statistics were not available, but Morgan Trupp scored for Ottawa five minutes into the match and Brittney Irland tied things up for the Coyotes with five minutes left in regulation.
Ottawa will represent the KCAC in the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round on next Saturday. Hosts and pairings will be released on Monday. Wesleyan still has a chance at earning an at-large bid.
