KWU Women Golfers Win, Men Third in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY – In what turned out to be a dual between the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes and Oklahoma Wesleyan on the women’s side, Wesleyan ran away with a 47-shot victory over the Eagles on Monday and Tuesday in the Mid-America Christian Tournament at Earlywine Golf Course. On the men’s side, Wesleyan battled to a third place finish out of six teams in the tournament.
Kamie Rash dominated the field on the women’s side, shooting a 74 followed by a 78 for a total score of 152 to win the individual title by 30 shots over Oklahoma Wesleyan’s Alyssa Cardwell. Wesleyan’s Kelcey Edwards was third with a 185 (94-91), Monika Grant was fifth with a 206 (104-102) and Erin Monaghan was seventh with a 211 (113-98).
On the men’s side, the Coyotes played to a third place finish, eight shots ahead of Southwestern Christian. The Coyotes posted a team score of 625 for the tournament. Tyler Clark led the way for the Coyotes tying for fourth place with a 150 (77-73). Clinton Moore and Joel Weis tied for 16th, shooting 159 (76-83 and 78-81, respectively). Cody Crabtree was 18th with a 161 (82-79), Cameron Staples was 26th with a 171 (80-91) and Tanner and Tyler Jones both shot 172 (93-79, 91-81, respectively) to tie for 27th.
The Coyote women are back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Fall Invitational at Awarii Dunes Golf Course in Axtell, Neb. The Wesleyan men are off until October 7 and 8 for the Sterling College Fall Invitational at Carey Park in Hutchinson.
