KWU Volleyball Sweeps Tabor

KSAL Sports - September 26, 2013 5:49 am

HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Kansas Wesleyan Volleyball team remained unbeaten in KCAC play with a straight set sweep – 25-16, 25-19, 25-14 over the Tabor College Bluejays on Wednesday evening at the Tabor Student Center.

The Coyotes came out in impressive fashion, using a mid-set run to pull away from the Bluejays for the 25-16 win in the first set. The second set was a little closer as the Coyotes had to fight off a late rally by Tabor for the 25-19 win. Wesleyan easily controlled the final set, pulling away with a big run and cruising to the 25-14 win.

“We played well as a team tonight,” Wesleyan head coach Fred Aubuchon said. “I attribute that to our strong schedule, our assistant coaches and the tenacity of the players.”

It was another balanced offensive attack for the Coyotes as they hit .247 as a team with 32 total kills, led by Breanne Schultz with nine. Lauren Chamness and Melissa Blair had seven each while Taylor Elkinton had 30 assists in the match. Marlene Yang had 16 digs for the Coyotes and Brittaney Miller had 15. Taylor Klover had an impressive night at the net with seven blocks, including two solo, as the Coyotes had ten total team blocks.

Wesleyan (13-9, 5-0 KCAC) continues the difficult portion of its schedule on Saturday, as the Coyotes host Friends in a battle of KCAC unbeatens, starting at 2 p.m., at Mabee Arena as part of Homecoming 2013 activities on the Wesleyan campus.
