KWU Golfers Fare Well at Ottawa Fall Invite

LAWRENCE – Less than ideal weather conditions were just one of the opponents the Kansas Wesleyan Golf teams faced at the Ottawa University Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Eagle Bend Golf Course. Battling wind, cold, rain and stormy weather, the Coyote men captured the team championship, while the women played to a third place finish.
On the men’s side, three Wesleyan players tied for second place as Clinton Moore (75-82),Cody Crabtree (79-78) and Tanner Jones (79-78) all shot a 157. Joel Weis shot twin 83’s for a 166 to tie for ninth with teammate Tyler Clark, who shot 87-79. Cameron Staples tied for 12th with a 171 (84-87) and Tyler Jones was 16th with a 176 (84-92).
Wesleyan won the team title by two shots with a team score of 643 (321-322) to win by two shots over Ottawa. Haskell (Kan.) was third with a 660.
On the women’s side, Kamie Rash again led the Coyote finishers, tying for first but losing on the second playoff hole to Ottawa’s Erin Shriver. Both shot a 158 in regulation as Rash shot a 78 on the first day and followed with an 80.
Both Wesleyan golf teams are back in action next Monday and Tuesday in the Mid-America Christian Tournament at Earlywine Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
