Four Golfers Make State Meet

While Sacred Heart, Southeast of Saline and Ell-Saline did not qualify teams for next week’s state golf tournaments, all three¬†qualified at least one person¬†to play in their respective tournament.

Sacred Heart finished third as a team in Norton, one spot shy of qualifying the entire four-man group. The Knights shot a 362, 11 shots behind second place Phillipsburg.

Brooks Brown returns to state following a runner-up showing at regionals, shooting a 77. He is joined at state by teammate Jack Skidmore, who shot a 91 to place ninth. Both finished among the top five individuals not on qualifying teams. Spencer Roberts shot a 96 and Nathan LeValley had a 98 to cap Sacred Heart’s scoring.

Southeast of Saline also finished third in its regional at Council Grove. The Trojans finished with a 389, four shots behind regional runner-up Osage City.

Jacob Ostmeyer led the Trojans with a 93 and finished among the top five individuals not on a qualifying team to qualify for state as an individual. Sam Frost had a 97, Ethan Hughes shot a 99 and Justin Gagna had a 100 for Southeast.

In Class 2A, Ell-Saline did not field a full team at Republic County, but Tyler Weems qualified as an individual, scoring an 89.

The state golf tournaments are scheduled for Tuesday, May 27.
