Salina South’s girls basketball season came to an end in the opening round of sub-state, as they fell to Kapaun Mt. Carmel 53-22.
Both teams exchanged the lead through the opening three minutes before the Cougars used a 5-0 run halfway through the first quarter. South’s patient offense had them in the lead after a quarter 10-8. That 5-0 run was quickly erased by a 5-0 run to begin the second quarter by the Crusaders, and they would outscore South 11-2 to close out the first half and lead 19-12 at intermission.
Kapaun pushed their lead to double digits with 4:45 left in the third quarter and never looked back from there. At the end of three their lead was 35-17. The Cougars would be outscored 18-5 in the final quarter, falling to the Crusaders 53-22.
The Cougars were led by 13 points from Emilee Holloway. Sam Bachrodt led Kapaun also with 13 points. Salina South ends their season with a 4-17 overall record.
