Central, South Track Competes in Newton

The Salina South boys team and the Salina Central girls team each finished fourth at Tuesday’s Newton Invitational track meet.
The South boys were paced by three event winners. Garrett Mortimer took the javelin with a throw of 158 feet, nine inches. Treven Slayton won the high jump, clearing six feet. Avery Mitchell was the triple jump champion at 42 feet, five inches.
The Central boys placed sixth in the meet. Daniel Villareal was the top individual for the Mustangs, placing second in the 3,200 meters in 10:12.50.
The Central girls had four event winners. Jetta Greene was tops in the triple jump at 33 feet, 7 and 1/2 inches. Halie Turner won the pole vault by clearing 10 feet. Shaelyn Martin won the 300 hurdles (48.16) and was part of the champion 1,600 relay (4:20.28).
Salina South’s girls finished eighth. Teryn Holloway won the javelin with a throw of 115 feet, four inches. Emilee Holloway was a winner in the 800 in 2:29.37.
