Andover Pulls Away From Sacred Heart in SIT Opener

Sacred Heart ended its season Saturday night in the 3A Marion substate championship game with a 46-36 loss to top-seeded and top-ranked Hesston.
Sacred Heart held their own in the first half against Andover in the opening round of the SIT Monday night, but a big second half allowed the Trojans to pull away for a 54-35 win.
Sacred Heart opened the game on a 5-0 run and didn’t allow an Andover two-point field goal the entire first quarter. The Lady Trojans came back to tie the game at 7-7 and took their first lead at 10-7, but the Lady Knights answered to take a 12-10 lead after the opening eight minutes of the game.
Andover tied the game early in the second quarter and held the lead until halftime, but never by more than six points. Sacred Heart trailed 20-14 and 22-16, but were within 23-20 after two quarters.
The Lady Knights tied the score 23-23 early in the second half, but a 9-0 run by the Lady Trojans gave them the lead for good. Andover led 39-27 at the end of the third quarter.
Sacred Heart trailed by as many as 22 points in the fourth quarter, and in the end, fell by a 19-point score.
The Sacred Heart girls have lost eight straight games and fall to 2-8 overall. They remain 0-5 in the NCAA league standings. Cara Donley led Sacred Heart with 19 points.
The Knights will play in SIT consolation bracket with their next game at 4:45pm Wednesday afternoon.
