Tuition is about to increase at Kansas' six public universities. The Kansas Board of Regents voted yesterday to approve the tuition increases. Under the plan, KU, K-State, Emporia State and Pittsburg State will each see five-percent tuition hikes this fall. Wichita State will see a five-point-nine-percent increase, and tuition at Fort Hays State will rise by seven percent.

Union nurses at a Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph hospital are authorizing a strike. Nurses at the Wichita hospital voted 90-percent in favor of authorizing the strike this week. Nurses say that there is a staffing crisis at the hospital because management is refusing to get serious about nurse recruitment and retention.
