USD 305 Superintendent Finalist: Darrel Kohlman

The fourth of four candidates vying to be the next superintendent at USD 305 schools spent Thursday in Salina.

Darrel Kohlman spent a day which included interviewing with the school board, meeting with district administration, faculty, and staff and meeting with the public.

Kohlman has a total of 30 years in public education, currently superintendent in Nemaha Central Schools USD 115. He has served 11 years as superintendent including serving as superintendent/principal in Mullinville USD 424. Kohlman was a preschool-grade 12 principal for 7 years at Bucklin USD 459 and prior to that taught secondary science, reading, physical education and coached for 12 years at Hillsboro USD 410 and Twin Valley USD 240.

Kohlman told KSAL News he has admired the USD 305 district from the time of his first teaching job 30-years-ago in Tescott.

Kohlman said one of his strongest traits as an administrator is his ability to empower a staff, and a community.

Kohlman is the fourth of four finalists that the board will interview. Finalists were selected for interview based on their fit with desired characteristics that were developed with input from focus groups and a community survey. The other finalists include William Biermann and David McGehee, and John Thissen.

The board will now deliberate on who it thinks should be offered the job. There is no timetable on when a hire will be made.
