Meet USD 305 Superintendent Finalist: David McGehee

Monday was a very busy day for David McGehee, one of the four finalists for the USD 305 Salina Superintendent of Schools.

McGehee’s day began at 9 a.m. when he met with the USD 305 Board Clerk and ended with a formal interview with the USD 305 Board of Education at the USD 305 district office at 1511 Gypsum.

McGehee, a 31 year veteran in public schools, has been a superintendent of schools before. He spent 18 years as a superintendent at three different districts, including 10 years as the superintendent at the Lee’s Summit school district in Missouri.

McGehee tells KSAL News that he was drawn to the Salina area because of the programs that its schools has to offer to students.

Part of McGehee’s day was also spent in a meet and greet with media and several interested people in the general public–which included many students meeting the finalist for the district’s top position.

One thing McGehee says that he is not going to do, should he get the position, is come in with his own plan. He says he will look to involve the community in rewriting a dated strategic plan.

Three other USD 305 superintendent of schools finalists will be announced later this week by the district. Check the district website for more information. Interim Superintendent Dr. James R. Hardy has led the district since July 2017.
