Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is issuing a State of Disaster Emergency due to the extreme cold impacting the state.

The declaration was issued because natural gas providers have been put under stress due to increased demand.

Kelly is urging residents to conserve energy in order to ensure a continued supply of natural gas and electricity and to keep personal costs down.
