Todd PittengerAugust 12, 2021

An Abilene man was killed in a two-vehicle head on crash on Interstate Thursday afternoon.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 34-year-old Ryan Pack of Abilene was driving a Chevrolet Equinox headed east. He crossed the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming Kenworth semi. The Equinox caught fire following the crash.

Pack was killed in the crash. The driver of the semi had no apparent injuries.

The crash happened in a construction area about a mile and a half west of Chapman at 12:20 Thursday afternoon. The westbound lanes of that section of I-70 have been closed due to bridge construction work, necessitating one eastbound lane being used for westbound traffic.
