A child is dead following a drowning in northeast Kansas.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says a four-year-old girl from Missouri was found unconscious in an above-ground swimming pool at a home in Perry on Sunday evening.

The child was taken to a Lawrence hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities say the child’s family was visiting relatives for the holiday.
