Woman Hurt in Exide Explosion

A small explosion at Exide Technologies early Friday morning injured a female employee.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan tells KSAL News that a 48-year-old woman was cleaning in an area of the production plant that was on break.

Deputies say just before 6am a torch in a controller box may have ignited a small explosion and injured the woman knocking her unconscious for a few moments.

The woman was awake when EMS transported her to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Production was not halted as a result of the explosion that was contained to a small area in the plant. Exide is located at 413 E. Berg Road and produces vehicle batteries.

Cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
