Vikings drop a pair at Hillsboro

Don BengtsonJanuary 29, 2019

Smoky Valley Girls played the Hillsboro Trojans even for one quarter but then Hillsboro pulled away to lead 23-16 at the half. Then outscored the Vikings 21-6 in the third quarter and won going away 54-29. Ellie Brumbaugh had 7 for the Vikings.

In the night cap the Smoky Valley Boys led 14-8 after one quarter which was the result of a 75 foot buzzer beater by Carson Windholz. But Hillsboro cut into the Viking lead late in the 2nd quarter and trailed only by 1 at the half. They then exploded in the third with a 13-3 run to lead 33-24, but the Vikings would close the gap to only 4 after 3 quarters, 33-29. But the 4th quarter was nip and tuck, as Hillsboro stretched their lead to 10 and the furious Viking rally fell short losing 53-48. Lane Schrag had 11, Blake Heble 9, and Cade Schneider 9. Vikings will be back in action Friday at home against Larned.
