State Lawmaker Resigns

A Kansas lawmaker is stepping down because of brain cancer.

State Representative Greg Lewis of St. John announced his resignation yesterday at the Kansas Statehouse in Topeka.

Lewis told colleagues that he began suffering from vision problems and other medical issues while visiting his son in the Kansas City area for Christmas, and an MRI revealed a mass on his brain.

The Republican lawmaker has served in the Kansas House of Representatives since 2015, and his resignation will take effect on Friday.
