Dinner, Auction, Raffle to Benefit Shelter Group

An event this week which helps an organization whose mission is to help the animals at Salina Animal Services is giving supporters an opportunity to take home some unique prizes.

The Friends of the Salina Animal Shelter’s Spay-ghetti & No-Balls Dinner and Silent Auction Fundraiser, which is this Thursday, has multiple raffle items. They include:

  • 41″ Flat Screen Smart TV (Valued at $200)
  • Eric Berry Autographed Chiefs Jersey (Valued at $150)
  • Derrick Thomas Autographed Chiefs Mini Helmet (Valued at over $200)
  • Road Trip Basket with 1-week car rental from Long McArthur (Valued at $600)
  • Cat Tree (Valued at $100)

The Spay-ghetti & No-Balls Dinner is the single biggest fund raising event of the year for the all-volunteer organization who some consider to be part of the backbone of the animal shelter.

Volunteer Maggie Gillam tells KSAL News the event is the organization has grown exponentially from a modest start.

Gillam says the Spay-ghetti & No-Balls Dinner features an entire evening of activities, auctions, entertainment, and food.

The Friends of the Salina Animal Shelter is dedicated to helping the animals at the Salina Animal Services animal shelter. These volunteers hope to brighten the lives of the many pets cared for at the shelter daily. Volunteers are an integral part of getting the animals socialized, keeping them exercised, and getting them exposure to the public all with the hopes of finding all the shelter animals new furr-ever homes and furr-ever families. Gillam said the volunteers do a wide variety of things at the shelter.

The Salina Animal Shelter is a nonprofit organization, and a division of Salina’s Parks and Recreation Department. The organization provides animal control, adoption services and wildlife management. The shelter is a no-kill shelter, meaning that over 90 percent of the animals it receives are saved.

Gillam says ticket sales to the Spay-ghetti & No-Balls Dinner have been good, and tickets still remain. Gillam adds Friends of the Salina Animal Shelter are always looking for more volunteers.
