Salina Man Avoids Injury in Train Crash

A Salina man was not hurt when a Union Pacific Train he was engineering crashed into an SUV.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe was driving east on Ash Street in Junction City. The SUV went left of center and was struck by an oncoming train.

The driver and two passengers in the SUV were hurt. All three were transported to Geary County Community Hospital. They are identified as:

  • 21-year-old Ishmail Maurice Thomas from Junction City – Suspected Serious Injury
  • 31-year-old Marcus Dewayne Solton from Bossier City, Louisiana – Suspected Serious Injury
  • 40-year-old Travis Ray Allen from Junction City -Suspected Minor Injury

The train conductor, identified as 67-year-old John Anslover of Salina, had no apparent injuries.

The crash happened Friday evening at around 5:30 at 195 E. Ash Street in Junction City.
