Morgan LillichJanuary 4, 2019

The Ell-Saline Cardinal basketball squads were swept by the Remington Broncos Friday night in Heart of America League action in Brookville.

In the girls’ matchup, Remington used a strong defensive effort to force 11 first-half turnovers on its way to an 18-12 advantage at the break.  In all, Ell-Saline committed 20 turnovers on the night while falling in defeat 40-31.

Junior guard Cassandra Wedel lead the Bronco charge with 14 points on the night, with junior Abigail Entz and senior Bethany Regehr each adding six for Remington.

Ell-Saline game-high scoring honors were shared by a quartet of Cardinals, with junior Erin Lange, sophomores Reece Ditto and Brynna Rowley and freshman Raleigh Kramer each finishing with seven points.

With the loss, Ell-Saline fell to 0-7 on the season and 0-2 in HOA play, while Remington improved to 1-6 overall and 1-0 in league action.

In the nightcap, Remington took advantage of a frosty first quarter for the Ell-Saline offense to take a 13-3 lead at the end of period.  After leading by ten at halftime, the Broncos salted things away with a 14-5 third quarter, giving Remington a 42-23 advantage.  While Ell-Saline battled back in the fourth quarter, the hill was too steep to climb, with Remington holding on for the 51-42 win.

The Broncos were lead by senior Brayden Marciano, who finished with 15 points.  Junior Edward Winter added ten points off the bench for Remington.

Ell-Saline received game efforts offensively from sophomore Treyton Peterson, who led all scorers with 21 points in the contest, and senior Patrick Giersch, who kicked in 13 points in the loss.

Remington improved their record to 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in HOA league play with the win, while Ell-Saline fell to 2-5 overall, and 1-1 in league play.
