Powerball Jackpot Climbs to $400 Million

Lottery officials say there was no grand prize winner in the first Powerball drawing of the year that also offers one of the biggest prizes in the game’s history.

The jackpot in Saturday’s drawing had grown to $334 million, the 12th largest in Powerball history. The lump-sum cash prize for the winner would have been $205 million.

The last time the prize was close to that amount was in March 2013, when a New Jersey man won $338 million.

The largest winning jackpot ever was $656 million in a Mega Millions lottery drawing in March of 2012.

The odds of matching all six numbers and winning the jackpot are 1 in 175.2 million.

The next drawing will be held Wednesday. The estimated jackpot is $400 million.

Powerball is played in 43 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Powerball tickets are available in Kansas everywhere Kansas Lottery tickets are sold.
