Offender Legislation Proposed

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is proposing a change in the state’s sex offender sentencing laws.

The “Wichita Eagle” reports that Schmidt unveiled a proposal yesterday that would block a judge from reducing an offender’s sentence even if a victim younger than 14-years-old is found to be an aggressor in the incident.

The proposed bill comes after a Leavenworth County judge lowered the sentence of a convicted sex offender late last year after ruling that a 13-year-old girl was the aggressor in the case.
