Governor Restores LGBT Protections

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is restoring protections for LGBT state workers.

The newly inaugurated Kelly signed her first official act as governor Tuesday, ordering state agencies to prohibit discrimination against LGBT employees. Kelly’s order also covers people who work for state contractors.

Kelly said via social media “as my first official act as Governor, I am reinstating protections to state employees who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. EO 2019-02 restores rights that were taken away in recent years. Discrimination of any kind has no place in Kansas. It will not be tolerated.”

The protections for LGBT state workers were eliminated by then Governor Sam Brownback in 2015.
