A concerned citizen’s call – leads to child endangerment charges for a Salina couple.
Officers were called to the corner of Osage and Ponca on Monday morning around 10am, after two young children were observed wandering around.
Police say a a 3-year old, wearing only a diaper and 5-year-old sibling, were walking around with no supervision.
The children were able to lead the officer back to a home at 931 Osage, where police found the door open and could hear a child crying from inside.
The officer entered the home to check on the child and found three unresponsive adults inside along with the strong odor of marijuana.
A warrant was issued and the I 135 / I 70 Drug Task Force found several bags of pot, along with a digital scale and a large amount of drug paraphernalia.
Police arrested two of the adults and released a third without charges.
According to Task Force Commander Lt. Jim Norton, 24-year-old Mathew C. Whitmer and 25-year-old Santana L. Whitmer are now facing charges that include endangering a child.
Mathew Witmer was also cited with multiple drug charges that include possession with intent to sell within 1000-feet of a school.
The children were placed with other family members.
