BB Gun Vandal Arrested

Police have made a second arrest in connection to a spree of vandalism that damaged numerous cars and homes around Salina.

Police Sergeant David Villanueva tells KSAL News that 18-year-old Juwan Whitaker Jr. was arrested on Monday afternoon for allegedly firing a BB gun from a moving vehicle at homes, cars and at least two people.

An unidentified male juvenile was arrested earlier this week, and investigators soon focused on finding Whitaker.

An officer on patrol identified him in a car while making a traffic stop on Monday in the 300 block of N. Ohio. Police say Whitaker was breaking a protection order from stalking a 17-year-old girl who was riding in the car with him.

He’s now facing numerous charges that could include 2 counts of aggravated battery, contributing to a child’s misconduct, felony criminal damage plus drug charges in connection to marijuana that was found in the vehicle.

Police report property and people were targeted in the 1900 block of Ingman, 1900 block of Roach, 1100 block of Acorn, 100 block of N. Santa Fe, 700 block of N. 9th, 500 block of S. 11th, 700 block of Fairdale, 1200 block of E. Cloud, 100 block of W. Iron, 400 block of S. 11th and 400 block of S. 12th. Property damage in the case is estimated at $5,200 while the four people hit by BB pellets suffered minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities say anyone with information on those involved in the vandalism should contact Salina Police at 785-826-7210 or CrimeStoppers at 825-TIPS.
