Another Bail Bonds Scam

A bail bonds scam deceives a second victim in Salina.

Police report that a 21-year-old man who had recently bonded out of the Saline County Jail after a DUI charge through Midwest Bonding – was duped by a phone call from a criminal for more money.

Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that someone claiming to be with Midwest told the victim he needed to wire $600 or a warrant would be issued for his arrest.

After sending the money, he was asked to wire $300 more to have the charges dropped. The next day the scammer demanded that $299 would be needed to finalize his paperwork.

Police say the calls originated from Oakland, California.

Loss in the case is listed at $1,164.95.

Back in mid June a Salina woman who bonded out of jail on a DUI charge, fell victim to a similar scam for $600.
