Alum Thompson to Coach Sacred Heart Girl’s Basketball

Keenan Thompson has been tabbed to be the next head basketball coach for the Sacred Heart girl’s program.

Thompson comes to Sacred Heart from Hugoton where he was the assistant coach for the girl’s basketball team. He replaces Arnold Schmidtberger as head coach, who is leaving Sacred Heart for a teaching and assistant volleyball coaching position at Salina South High School.

Thompson is also a 2010 graduate of Sacred Heart High School.

After graduating Bethany College, Thompson spent four seasons as the assistant basketball coach for the Hugoton girl’s basketball team. During his time, the Lady Eagles posted a 73-24 record, including three-straight trips to the state tournament, two third place finishes and a state championship.

Thompson takes over a Sacred Heart team that returns its whole roster from 2018-2019 and is coming off of its first double-digit win season in 10 years.

The Knights return their three top scorers including Teghan Slagle and Hannah Goetz, who both averaged double-figures. The Knights’ top returning scorer, Ally Cochran, averaged 12.5 PPG, but is returning from injury.

Thompson will also teach social studies at Sacred Heart Junior High. Listen to Thompson below:
