An adult day health facility in Salina that provides supervised daytime care for older or disabled adults is closed indefinitely following an overnight fire.
A fire early Wednesday morning caused extensive damage at Sunflower Adult Day Services located at the corner of Iron and 9th Street in Downtown Salina. The building will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
Salina Fire Chief Shane Pearson told KSAL News dispatch received an automatic fire alarm alert at 12:12 am. At about the same time a police officer on patrol reported and active fire.
The Chief says there were flames coming from a window on both floors of the building when the first crews arrived on scene.
It appears the fire started on the first floor, in an office area. A fire investigator was on scene Wednesday morning working to determine a cause.
There were no injuries, including to a person who lives in an apartment on the upper level. The resident was able to safely escape.
Sunflower said via social media their future is unknown at this time. “We are devastated right now and need to process this. We would certainly welcome prayers for this very unfortunate tragedy”.
