Jeromey and Vicki Balaun are a husband and wife team at home and on the job – as Managers at Salina’s Carlos O’Kelly’s.

The couple was recently recognized as the chain’s best managers with the company’s Presidents Award.

Vicki stopped by the KSAL Morning News on Wednesday with a look at the rise in the restaurant’s sales and commitment to community events.

“We’ve reached out and helped some schools with a benefit for supplies and playground equipment,”  Balaun said.

Vicki also pointed to their customers and the staff as the reason they were able to raise money to help a family whose three-year old was battling cancer.

“Our staff really respsonded well to it and went out and bought T-shirts that had his name on it. And everyone wanted to work.”

According to Carlos O’Kelly’s corporate offices, the Salina location in the Central Mall sales grew by 2.9 percent in the first year the Balauns took the helm in 2014.

That growth accelerted to 6.2 percent last year and has earned the restaurant a make over project this summer.
