“Scottish Festival” Becomes ” McPherson Festival of Cultures”

What’s in a name? A decades old event that celebrates the Scottish heritage of the community of McPherson is going through some changes.

For more than 20 years, McPherson was home to the annual McPherson Scottish Festival featuring Highland games, Celtic music, dance and food. This year, organizers are broadening the event to include all nationalities. It has been renamed the McPherson Festival of Cultures.

According to Tony Fiedler, McPherson Scottish Vice Chair, festival planners recognized the need to make changes to attract more local residents and to celebrate a diverse community. “McPherson has expanded over the years as industries have attracted new ethnic groups,” said Fiedler. “While we plan to maintain the overall Scottish flavor of the festival, it’s important for us to focus on other cultures.”

The 2016 festival will continue to host traditional Highland athletic games, music and dancers. The McPherson Bagpipe Band will also perform.

New attractions boasting international flair will enhance the festival. Come enjoy craft beer tasting, blue grass music, steel drums, an international market, ethic foods and more.

The McPherson Festival of Cultures is September 23rd, 24th, and 25th.
