Safe In the Sun, Pool

KSAL StaffMay 18, 2016

Area lifeguards will be learning about sun safety before kids show up for swimming lessons this summer.

“We go to all the Salina pools, and Lindsborg and Marquette this year to train the lifeguards who teach swim lessons, to give them sun safety lessons,” said Linda Hinnenkamp RN and Cancer Outreach Coordinator at Tammy Walker Cancer Center.

Hinnenkamp joined in on the KSAL Morning News on Wednesday with a look at skin cancer prevention.

“We’ve teamed up with Midwest Cancer Alliance again to provide free sunscreen to the pools for the whole summer for the public,” she said.

Hinnenkamp says the aim of the “Pool Cool” program is to help area lifeguards pass on good skin care practices to children who are taking swim lessons.

Hinnenkamp also added that coming up June 18th, an event to celebrate cancer survivors will take place at the Tammy Walker Cancer Center from 11am to 1pm.

The day will have a banner to write how you celebrate life, Blessing of the hands, Sno Wizard sno cones, Walking tacos and a photo booth.
