New Principal at Central High School

A new principal will take over at Salina Central High School. According to USD 305, Matthew Brungardt will be the principal effective July 1st.

Brungardt has been an educator for 25 years, most recently serving as principal at Lawrence High School since 2009. His experience as assistant principal includes nine years at Lawrence High School and Kapaun Mount Carmel High School. He taught social science and coached tennis, basketball and football for six years between Saint Thomas Aquinas and Bishop Hogan high schools.

His experiences as principal working with his staff include:

  • implementing a tiered model of prevention (MTSS)
  • raising their graduation rate
  • implementing Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG)
  • managing bond upgrades

Raised in Salina, Brungardt graduated from Central High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and his secondary teaching certificate from Rockhurst College. Brungardt earned his master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and his doctoral degree from Saint Louis University.

Nate Showman, currently principal at Central High school, accepted the position of principal at Verrado High School in Buckeye, Arizona.
