Kansas College Football Players Shot

A couple of Kansas football players from Washburn University were shot.

According to the Topeka Police Department, 23-year-old Dwane Simmons was killed and 23-year-old Corey Ballentine was injured in an off-campus shooting Sunday  morning near Southwest 13th and Lane streets.

Simmons was a graduate of Lee’s Summit West High School near Kansas City. He was a junior majoring in mass media.

Ballentine, who was drafted by the New York Giants in the 2019 NFL Draft on Saturday, is expected to recover.
