Happy Ending For A Victim Of Vehicle Theft

Sarah ReppMay 20, 2019

A Salina man’s truck was stolen the morning of May 17th and found that afternoon.

Robert Schimmel (59) from Salina went to work at 6 AM on Friday morning. He parked his red 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck at 161 S. Broadway and went inside. A short time later his co-worker arrived and asked where Mr. Schimmel put his truck. When Schimmel discovered it wasn’t there, he called the Salina Police, according to Captain Paul Forrester.

After filing the truck as stolen, another officer noticed it at 781 N. Broadway. The officer made contact with Jacob Denton (32) who was later taken into custody. Mr. Denton told officers, he was picked up and given a ride by another subject who he dropped off at a trailer park on N. 13th and then drove himself to the Airliner Motel on Broadway.

Denton was arrested for his charges including: Suspended Driver’s License, Possession of Stolen Property, and a Warrant from District Court.

The truck was returned to Mr. Schimmel undamaged.
