Sheriff Doesn’t Accept Gift Cards

Saline County Sheriff Rodger Soldan reminds Saline county residents: “The Sheriff’s Office doesn’t accept prepaid gift cards as bond”

Rodger Soldan told KSAL News: Their office was tipped off about a new scam over the weekend. A man called because he was having trouble with the numbers on a prepaid gift card. The man said someone called him regarding a family member, who is currently booked into the Saline County Jail. The caller pretended to be a lieutenant from the Sheriff’s office and told him to call back with the numbers of loaded gift cards, then his family member would be released.

One citizen was scammed out of approximately $3,000

If you receive a similar phone call, do not believe them and do not give out any card numbers.

Sheriff Soldan said: No one from the sheriff’s office will call a family member and ask for a prepaid gift card. Especially not in exchange for freeing their loved one from jail.
