Deadly Venom End Liberty Streak

Pat StrathmanMay 12, 2019

The three-game winning streak is no more.

Amarillo quarterback Nate Davis threw for 270 yards and nine touchdowns, propelling the Venom to an 82-61 victory over the Salina Liberty. Salina dropped to 4-3 after losing to the Venom for the second time this season.

Davis and the Venom were unstoppable. Davis led Amarillo to nine consecutive scoring drives. The Liberty were within 14 points after a Dontra Matthews kickoff return for a touchdown 20 seconds into the fourth.

Amarillo put the game out of reach, ballooning the 62-48 advantage to 69-48 after back-to-back rushing touchdowns. Salina was never closer than 21 points the rest of the way.

Salina quarterback Andrew Jackson completed 15 of 19 passes for 199 yards and six touchdowns. Rashad Pargo had six catches for 79 yards and three scores. Salina is off this week before a home contest with Sioux City at Tony’s Pizza Events Center.
