Salina Central played host to the Goddard Lions at Dean Evans Stadium on Tuesday night looking for its eighth win this season.
The Mustangs have had solid showings from their pitching staff this season but Coach Vaughn is still looking for his offense to fully find their footing. The Mustangs offense got things started in the bottom of the second inning putting up four runs, on one hit and four free passes from the Lions starter.
Central rolled out its ace, southpaw Grayton Gross. In his four starts, Gross has posted a team best 0.67 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched. Gross posted another solid outing, allowing just two earned runs on five hits and seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Reliever Seth Rogers came in at a tough spot with runners on first and second in a two run ball game. He managed to pick up two huge strikeouts to get out of the jam. Rogers pitched an impressive 2.2 innings, giving up just one hit, zero runs, with four strikeouts.
The Mustang’s offense had a big bottom of the sixth inning putting up five runs on five hits to help secure the victory.
After another stellar start, Grayton Gross picked up the win on the mound. Bodie Rodriguez, Jack Gordon, Parker Graves, and Chance Hogan all had multi-hit games in the win as well. Central improved to 8-5 on the season.
