Arrest Made in Assault Case

KSAL StaffJuly 22, 2016

A Wichita man is in custody following an investigation into a burglary and beating of a Salina resident.

Police arrested 31-year-old Reggie T. Benoit on charges that stem from an incident on March 16th at 719 N. 7th Street.

Police allege that on that date, Benoit and a black, male suspect burst into the home just after midnight and dragged 36-year-old Jose Julia outside – punching and kicking him until he was unconscious.

The two then returned inside the home and stole a purse and contents owned by Luella Garrett and fled.

Benoit is facing multiple charges that include aggravated battery, aggravated assault and kidnapping and burglary.

Police are still searching for the second suspect.

Captain Sweeney tells KSAL News that Benoit, Julia and Garrett were all acquainted.
