UPDATE: Salina Man Killed in Fiery Crash

A Salina man was killed in a single vehicle fiery crash Thursday morning. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 58-year-old Larry L. Nelson was killed when the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander he was driving hit a bridge pillar and burst into flames.

The crash happened on Interstate 135 at the Magnolia Street overpass.

Trooper Ben Gardner told KSAL News at the scene that the vehicle was headed south on Interstate 135. For an unknown reason Nelson veered off the road, and struck a bridge pillar, head-on. The vehicle then caught fire.

The patrol says that its unknown why Nelson veered off the road.

The fatal crash happened just before 10:00 Thursday morning.

ORIGINAL: One person was killed in a single vehicle fiery crash in South Salina Thursday morning. The crash happened on Interstate 135 at the Magnolia Street overpass.

Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Ben Gardner told KSAL News at the scene that a passenger vehicle was headed south on the interstate. For an unknown reason the driver veered off the road, and struck a bridge pillar, head-on. The vehicle then caught fire.

The diver ended up on the ground, outside the vehicle, deceased.

Gardner says that the circumstances which led to the crash are currently under investigation.

The name of the victim was not being immediately released, pending notification of family.

The fatal crash happened just before 10:00 Thursday morning.
