A weekend winter storm is expected to impact the area late Friday into Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, A strong low pressure system is expected to lift across the area late Friday night through Saturday. A wintry mix of light freezing rain and sleet is expected to begin Friday night and eventually change to all snow during Saturday.

Locations generally from along I-70 to just south and east of the Kansas Turnpike will have the greatest chance to experience hazardous travel from this storm system. Several inches of snow and some ice accumulations are expected.
