Scam Hits Teen’s Pocket

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an online scam that bilked a teenager out of $1,530.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowski tells KSAL News that a 16-year-old NW Saline County girl that worked and saved her money to buy a car – has learned a hard lesson.

The Sheriff says she found a 2003 Honda Accord for sale on Craigslist on March 1st.

The seller told her the vehicle was in a shipping container and would be delivered after she used a money gram to send a cash payment.

The victim’s family contacted authorities on Wednesday after the vehicle never arrived.

Sheriff Kochanowski says the phone number leads back to Inverness, California. “Unfortunately, scams like this one are still out there doing damage.” he said.
